What should I wear?

For the Lake Louise Summer Sightseeing Gondola, dress in layers. Even when it is warm and sunny at the base, conditions higher on Whitehorn Mountain can be noticeably cooler, windier, and more changeable.

A good summer outfit is a T-shirt or lightweight base layer with a sweater, fleece, or light jacket over it. Bring a waterproof or wind-resistant outer layer if rain, wind, or unsettled weather is possible. Being able to remove and add layers is more useful than wearing one heavy garment.

For footwear, comfortable running shoes or walking shoes with good traction are sufficient if you're mainly sightseeing around the upper area. If you intend to hike the mountain trails, hiking shoes or lightweight hiking boots are a better choice because surfaces can be rocky, uneven, muddy, or slippery.

Wear comfortable pants, hiking pants, or shorts depending on the temperature. If you're wearing shorts on a warm day, carrying a warmer layer is still worthwhile. Mountain temperatures can drop quickly when clouds move in or the wind increases.

A hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are important. The higher elevation means stronger ultraviolet exposure, and you can get sunburned surprisingly quickly even when the air feels cool.

If you're taking the open-air chairlift, prepare for more exposure than you would experience inside the enclosed gondola. A light jacket can make the ride considerably more comfortable on cool or windy days.

You don't need technical mountaineering clothing for an ordinary sightseeing visit. Comfortable shoes, layers, a light jacket, sun protection, and clothing suitable for changing mountain weather are usually all you need.
