What other attractions are nearby?

There is a lot to see near the Lake Louise Summer Sightseeing Gondola, so it is easy to combine the gondola with other attractions for a half-day or full-day itinerary.

Lake Louise is the obvious addition. The famous turquoise lake sits across the Bow Valley from Whitehorn Mountain and is only a relatively short drive from the ski resort area. At the lake you can enjoy the lakeshore, photograph Victoria Glacier, rent a canoe during the summer season, or hike to destinations such as Lake Agnes and the Plain of Six Glaciers.

Moraine Lake is another major attraction nearby. It is famous for its intensely turquoise water and the Valley of the Ten Peaks. The Rockpile viewpoint provides the classic panorama. During the main visitor season, private vehicles are generally not permitted on Moraine Lake Road, so you'll need to arrange a shuttle or another authorized transportation option.

Lake Agnes Tea House can be reached by hiking from Lake Louise. The trail climbs above the lake through the forest, passing Mirror Lake before reaching Lake Agnes. It is a good addition if you want to turn your Lake Louise sightseeing day into more of a hiking experience.

Plain of Six Glaciers is another outstanding hike beginning at Lake Louise. It takes you toward the far end of the lake and into increasingly dramatic mountain terrain beneath the surrounding glaciers and peaks. Because it is a longer hike, combining it with extensive hiking on Whitehorn Mountain would make for a demanding day.

Bow Valley Parkway begins relatively close to the Lake Louise area and provides a slower, more scenic alternative to the Trans-Canada Highway toward Banff. Along the route are forest scenery, mountain viewpoints, picnic areas and opportunities to see wildlife.

Johnston Canyon is farther toward Banff along the Bow Valley Parkway. Its trail follows a narrow limestone canyon using pathways, bridges and catwalks to reach the Lower and Upper Falls. It combines well with the gondola if you aren't planning substantial hikes at both locations.

If you're travelling north from Lake Louise, the Icefields Parkway begins nearby. This opens up an entirely different collection of attractions, including Herbert Lake, Hector Lake viewpoints, Bow Lake and Peyto Lake. Bow Lake and Peyto Lake are particularly practical additions if you're continuing toward Jasper.

For a relaxed day, one of the best combinations is Lake Louise in the morning followed by the Lake Louise Gondola in the afternoon. For a more scenic and photography-focused day, combine Moraine Lake with the gondola. If you're continuing toward Jasper, combine the gondola with Bow Lake and Peyto Lake before travelling farther along the Icefields Parkway.
