What mountains can you see?

From Sunshine Village, Sunshine Meadows, and the Standish Viewing Deck, you can see an impressive collection of peaks along the Continental Divide and the surrounding Canadian Rockies. The exact mountains visible depend on where you are standing and the weather.

Mount Assiniboine is the standout distant peak. At 3,618 metres, its distinctive pyramidal shape has earned it the nickname “Matterhorn of the Rockies.” On a clear day, it can be seen rising dramatically in the distance from the Standish area.

Mount Howard Douglas is one of the prominent mountains immediately surrounding Sunshine Village. Its rugged slopes form an important part of the scenery around the resort and Sunshine Meadows.

Lookout Mountain is another major feature of the Sunshine landscape. It rises above the resort area near the Continental Divide and is familiar to winter visitors as part of Sunshine Village's ski terrain.

Mount Standish is the mountain you actually ascend when riding the Standish Chairlift. From its upper area, you gain the elevated perspective over Sunshine Meadows, including Rock Isle, Grizzly, and Laryx lakes.

You can also see peaks associated with the Continental Divide, which forms the boundary between Alberta and British Columbia in this area. Sunshine Village is unusual because you are surrounded by mountains spanning both sides of the provincial boundary.

On exceptionally clear days, the panorama extends across a huge section of the Rockies, with layers of unnamed or less immediately recognizable peaks stretching toward the horizon.
