What mountain ranges can you see?

From the Lake Louise Summer Sightseeing Gondola on Whitehorn Mountain, you can see across a broad section of the Canadian Rockies. The dominant mountain groups are the Bow Range and the Slate Range, with views extending toward the Continental Divide and other ranges on particularly clear days.

The Bow Range provides many of the most dramatic views. Looking across the Bow Valley toward Lake Louise, you are facing the high mountains surrounding the lake and the Continental Divide. This includes the Mount Victoria–Victoria Glacier area, one of the defining landscapes of Lake Louise.

The Slate Range lies immediately east and northeast of the Lake Louise area. Peaks such as Mount Richardson, Ptarmigan Peak, Redoubt Mountain, and Fossil Mountain contribute to the rugged skyline visible from Whitehorn Mountain and its hiking areas.

Whitehorn Mountain itself sits in an excellent position because you're looking across the Bow Valley rather than being enclosed within a narrow mountain basin. This creates a much broader panorama than you get from the Lake Louise lakeshore.

Looking west and southwest, the scenery becomes increasingly dominated by the Continental Divide and the high peaks of the Bow Range. Looking north and northeast opens views toward the Slate Range and mountains extending along the Bow Valley.

On exceptionally clear days, the panorama can extend beyond the immediately surrounding ranges, creating layers of increasingly distant Rocky Mountain ridges.

For most visitors, though, the standout view isn't simply identifying individual ranges. It's the combination of the Bow Range, Slate Range, Bow Valley, Lake Louise, Victoria Glacier, forested foothills of Whitehorn Mountain, and distant Continental Divide that makes the upper gondola panorama so impressive.
