What months is the gondola open?

Banff National Park offers four major Gondola sightseeing lift experiences, each providing a unique way to experience the Canadian Rockies.

Sunshine Village Sightseeing Gondola & Standish Chairlift

What months is the gondola open?

The Lake Louise Summer Sightseeing Gondola generally operates from early June through early October, covering the main summer and early-fall sightseeing season.

For 2026, the scheduled summer season runs June 5 through October 11, with the gondola operating daily during that period.

June brings greener slopes, lingering snow on the surrounding peaks, and the beginning of the main hiking season. July and August are peak summer months, with warmer temperatures, wildflowers, long daylight hours, and excellent conditions for sightseeing and wildlife watching.

September is particularly attractive because the mountain begins transitioning into autumn. Temperatures become cooler, crowds generally ease, and fall colours start appearing around the Lake Louise area. Operations continue into early October, when conditions can feel distinctly autumnal and fresh snow may begin appearing at higher elevations.

After the summer sightseeing season ends, the resort transitions toward its winter ski season, so the summer sightseeing operation does not normally continue through late October and November.

For 2026, think of the Lake Louise Summer Gondola season as early June to Thanksgiving weekend in October. Book the Banff Sunshine Village Sightseeing Gondola & Standish Chairlift
