Is the gondola enclosed?

Yes. The Sunshine Village Sightseeing Gondola is fully enclosed. You ride inside a cabin rather than on an open chair, so you are protected from wind and light rain during the approximately 20-minute trip from the base area up to Sunshine Village.

The enclosed cabins also make the gondola comfortable for families, older visitors, and people who may not enjoy open chairlifts. Large windows provide mountain and valley views throughout the ascent.

The Standish Chairlift is different. It is an open-air chairlift, so you are exposed to the wind, cooler temperatures, and changing weather as you travel higher toward the Standish Viewing Deck.

This means it can feel considerably colder on the Standish Chairlift than inside the gondola. Even on a warm summer day, bringing a light jacket or warm layer is a good idea.
