Is the Standish Chairlift open-air?

Yes. The Standish Chairlift is completely open-air. Unlike the enclosed Sunshine Village Gondola, you sit on an exposed chair as the lift carries you higher up Standish Mountain.

The open design provides unobstructed mountain views during the ride, making the chairlift itself an important part of the sightseeing experience. You can look across Sunshine Meadows, surrounding peaks, alpine terrain, and toward the Continental Divide.

Because there is no enclosed cabin, you are exposed to wind, cool temperatures, light rain, and changing mountain weather. It can feel noticeably colder on the chairlift than down at Sunshine Village, so a jacket or warm layer is recommended even on pleasant summer days.

The ride leads toward the Standish Viewing Deck, one of the highest easily accessible sightseeing points at Sunshine Village. From there, you can enjoy expansive views before riding the chairlift back down or continuing your visit around Sunshine Meadows.
