Is it wheelchair accessible?

Banff National Park offers four major Gondola sightseeing lift experiences, each providing a unique way to experience the Canadian Rockies.

Sunshine Village Sightseeing Gondola & Standish Chairlift

Is it wheelchair accessible?

Yes. The Lake Louise Summer Sightseeing Gondola can accommodate many visitors who use wheelchairs, but accessibility depends somewhat on the wheelchair and the visitor's individual mobility needs.

The enclosed gondola is the appropriate option for wheelchair users, rather than the open-air chairlift. Staff can assist with boarding, and the gondola provides a much more secure and manageable way to reach the upper mountain.

At the base area, accessible facilities and relatively easy access to the gondola are available. At the upper mountain, visitors can enjoy impressive views without needing to hike. However, not every part of the sightseeing area is fully wheelchair accessible. The surrounding mountain terrain includes unpaved trails, slopes, uneven surfaces, and natural terrain, which can restrict access beyond the main developed areas.

Visitors using larger wheelchairs, powered mobility devices, or anyone who requires significant boarding assistance should contact Lake Louise before visiting to confirm that their particular mobility equipment can be accommodated.

For wheelchair users who mainly want the gondola ride, mountain views, wildlife-viewing experience, and upper-mountain atmosphere, it can still be a very worthwhile Lake Louise attraction. Book the Banff Sunshine Village Sightseeing Gondola & Standish Chairlift
