Is it suitable for young children?

Banff National Park offers four major Gondola sightseeing lift experiences, each providing a unique way to experience the Canadian Rockies.

Sunshine Village Sightseeing Gondola & Standish Chairlift

Is it suitable for young children?

Yes. The Lake Louise Summer Sightseeing Gondola is suitable for young children, including toddlers and babies, and the enclosed gondola makes it particularly convenient for families.

For younger children, the enclosed gondola is the best choice. It provides a protected cabin rather than an exposed chairlift ride, making it more comfortable in wind, cool temperatures, or unsettled weather. Very small children who don't meet the chairlift's height requirements will need to use the enclosed gondola.

One of the biggest attractions for children is the possibility of seeing wildlife. Looking for bears, marmots, ground squirrels, and birds from the lift can turn the ride into an adventure. Grizzly sightings are possible on Whitehorn Mountain, although they are never guaranteed.

The Wildlife Interpretive Centre is also especially worthwhile for families. It introduces children to Rocky Mountain wildlife, grizzly bear habitat, conservation, and the natural environment in an accessible way.

You don't have to hike once you reach the upper mountain. Families can simply enjoy the viewpoints, interpretive activities, wildlife watching, and food facilities before riding back down. Families with energetic older children can add a short mountain walk.

Strollers can be useful around developed areas, although mountain trails are not particularly stroller-friendly because of gravel, slopes, and uneven terrain. A child carrier can be more practical if you intend to explore beyond the main facilities.

Bring warm layers, a light jacket, sun protection, water, and comfortable shoes for children. Conditions at the upper mountain can be noticeably cooler and windier than at the base.

Overall, it's a good choice for families who want to give young children a high-mountain experience without requiring them to hike up a mountain first. Book the Banff Sunshine Village Sightseeing Gondola & Standish Chairlift
