Is it suitable for people afraid of heights?

The Standish Chairlift may be challenging for people who are afraid of heights because it is an open-air chairlift. Unlike the enclosed Sunshine Village Gondola, there are no cabin walls around you, so you can see directly across-and down toward-the mountain terrain throughout the ride.

For someone with a mild fear of heights, the ride may still be manageable. Sitting back in the chair, keeping the safety bar down, looking toward the surrounding mountains rather than directly below, and riding beside someone you trust can make the experience more comfortable.

For someone with a strong fear of heights, the Standish Chairlift may not be enjoyable. The open exposure, changing distance from the ground, and elevated mountain setting can make the sensation of height quite noticeable.

You do not have to ride the Standish Chairlift to enjoy Sunshine Village. You can take the enclosed sightseeing gondola to the village, explore the surrounding alpine area and trails, and enjoy mountain scenery without continuing higher on the open chairlift.

If heights are only a minor concern, the spectacular views may make the Standish ride worthwhile. If open chairlifts normally cause significant anxiety, staying around the gondola-accessible areas will probably provide a more relaxing experience.
