Is it better than Mt. Norquay?

For a complete summer mountain experience, I would generally choose Sunshine Village over the Mt. Norquay Sightseeing Chairlift. Sunshine offers considerably more to explore once you reach the mountain.

At Sunshine, you get an enclosed gondola plus the open-air Standish Chairlift, followed by access to Sunshine Meadows. You can visit the Standish Viewing Deck, hike to Rock Isle Lake, Grizzly Lake, and Laryx Lake, photograph wildflowers, look for wildlife, or spend several hours exploring the alpine landscape. It can easily become a half-day or longer outing.

Mt. Norquay's biggest advantage is its view over Banff. The sightseeing chairlift climbs above the Bow Valley and provides beautiful perspectives toward the Banff townsite, Mount Rundle, Cascade Mountain, Vermilion Lakes, and surrounding peaks. The ride itself is a major part of the experience.

Norquay is also simpler and quicker. If you don't want several hours of hiking and just want an open-chairlift ride, mountain views, photographs, and some time at the upper area, it can fit into a Banff itinerary more easily than Sunshine.

Sunshine is stronger for hiking and nature. You are surrounded by high-alpine terrain rather than primarily looking down toward the valley. During wildflower season and September's larch season, Sunshine becomes particularly impressive.

For photography, the choice depends on the subject. Norquay is better for elevated views of Banff and the Bow Valley; Sunshine is better for alpine lakes, meadows, wildflowers, larches, and expansive mountain landscapes.

If you only have time for one during summer, I would choose Sunshine Village for the bigger overall experience. Choose Mt. Norquay if you want a shorter, quieter sightseeing excursion with excellent views over Banff and don't need extensive hiking.
