Does it close during high winds?

Yes. The Lake Louise Summer Sightseeing Gondola can temporarily close during high winds if conditions exceed the lift's safe operating limits.

Because the gondola and chairlift are exposed on the slopes of Whitehorn Mountain, strong or gusty winds can affect safe operation. Lift operators continuously monitor conditions and may slow, temporarily stop, or suspend the lift when necessary.

A wind-related closure does not necessarily mean the gondola will remain closed for the entire day. Mountain weather can change quickly, and operations may resume once winds decrease and conditions are considered safe.

The open-air chairlift may also be affected by weather conditions, and availability can differ from the enclosed gondola. Even when lifts are running, strong winds can make the upper mountain feel considerably colder and more exposed.

If the forecast calls for particularly strong winds, it's worth checking the resort's operating status before making the trip.
