Can you see Mount Assiniboine?

Banff National Park offers four major Gondola sightseeing lift experiences, each providing a unique way to experience the Canadian Rockies.

Sunshine Village Sightseeing Gondola & Standish Chairlift

Can you see Mount Assiniboine?

Yes. Mount Assiniboine can be seen from the Sunshine Meadows and Standish Mountain area on a clear day. Its distinctive pyramidal summit makes it one of the most recognizable distant peaks in the panorama.

At 3,618 metres, Mount Assiniboine is one of the highest and most dramatic mountains in the southern Canadian Rockies. Its steep, sharply defined profile is why it is often called the “Matterhorn of the Rockies.”

The Standish Viewing Deck is one of the best places at Sunshine Village to look for it. From the elevated viewpoint, you have a broad panorama across Sunshine Meadows and the Continental Divide, with Mount Assiniboine appearing in the distance when visibility is good.

It isn't always visible. Clouds, haze, wildfire smoke, rain, or mountain weather can obscure distant peaks even when conditions around Sunshine Village seem reasonably pleasant. A clear morning generally gives you a better chance of long-distance visibility.

Seeing Mount Assiniboine is an added highlight because you can view one of the Rockies' most famous peaks without travelling into Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park itself. Book the Banff Sunshine Village Sightseeing Gondola & Standish Chairlift
