Can you see Egypt Lake?

Banff National Park offers four major Gondola sightseeing lift experiences, each providing a unique way to experience the Canadian Rockies.

Sunshine Village Sightseeing Gondola & Standish Chairlift

Can you see Egypt Lake?

No. Egypt Lake is not normally visible from the Standish Viewing Deck or the main Sunshine Meadows viewpoints. Although Egypt Lake is relatively close to Sunshine Village in the broader Banff backcountry, intervening ridges and mountains block a direct view of the lake.

Egypt Lake lies in a separate backcountry basin northeast of Sunshine Village, surrounded by peaks and ridges. Its location below the surrounding terrain means you cannot simply look down on it from the Standish area in the way you can see Rock Isle Lake, Grizzly Lake, and Laryx Lake.

From the Standish Viewing Deck, the lakes you are most likely to notice are Rock Isle Lake, Grizzly Lake, and Laryx Lake. These three lakes form the classic Sunshine Meadows panorama.

Egypt Lake is instead a destination for backcountry hikers. It can be reached via trails connecting the Sunshine Village area with Healy Pass and the Egypt Lake region, but that is a substantially longer wilderness hike than the regular Sunshine Meadows sightseeing trails.

So if your goal is to see Egypt Lake itself, riding the gondola and Standish Chairlift won't provide a view of it. You would need to venture into the Egypt Lake backcountry to experience the lake up close. Book the Banff Sunshine Village Sightseeing Gondola & Standish Chairlift
