Can babies ride the gondola?

Banff National Park offers four major Gondola sightseeing lift experiences, each providing a unique way to experience the Canadian Rockies.

Sunshine Village Sightseeing Gondola & Standish Chairlift

Can babies ride the gondola?

Yes. Babies can ride the Sunshine Village Sightseeing Gondola. Because the gondola cabins are enclosed, families can travel together from the base up to Sunshine Village without the exposure of an open chairlift.

Parents should keep their baby securely held or in an appropriate carrier and follow the lift attendants' instructions when boarding and exiting. The attendants can help manage the boarding process if you need additional time.

The bigger consideration is the high-alpine environment after you arrive. Sunshine Village sits at a much higher elevation than Banff, so temperatures can be cooler, winds stronger, and weather more changeable. Bring warm layers, sun protection, and appropriate rain protection for your baby.

A baby carrier is generally much more practical than relying on a stroller if you intend to explore Sunshine Meadows, since the hiking trails include natural and uneven terrain.

The Standish Chairlift is a separate consideration from the gondola. Because it is an open-air chairlift, families travelling with an infant should check with Sunshine Village staff about the current infant-carrier and riding requirements before continuing up Standish Mountain.
