Can I visit Sunshine Village and Lake Louise in one day?

Yes. You can visit Sunshine Village and Lake Louise in the same day, but it works best if you plan Sunshine as a half-day experience rather than attempting a long hike through the entire Sunshine Meadows trail network.

A good approach is to visit Sunshine Village in the morning. Ride the sightseeing gondola up to the village, take the Standish Chairlift, walk to the Standish Viewing Deck, and, if time permits, hike toward Rock Isle Lake. Allow roughly 3-4 hours for a comfortable visit that includes the lifts, viewpoints, and some walking.

You can then travel to Lake Louise in the afternoon or early evening. The drive between the Sunshine Village access area and Lake Louise is roughly 45-60 minutes, depending on traffic and road conditions.

The major complication is Lake Louise parking and transportation. During the busy summer season, parking at the lakeshore is extremely limited and fills early. Many visitors use the Parks Canada shuttle system, so you need to coordinate your Lake Louise reservation or transportation schedule with your Sunshine visit.

If Lake Louise is your priority, another option is to visit Lake Louise early and Sunshine later, but you need to make sure you have enough time before Sunshine's sightseeing gondola and Standish Chairlift stop operating for the day.

Trying to combine a full Sunshine Meadows hike with Lake Louise would make the day rushed. If you want to hike Rock Isle, Grizzly, and Laryx lakes at a relaxed pace, Sunshine deserves most of a day by itself.
