Can I mountain bike there?

Banff National Park offers four major Gondola sightseeing lift experiences, each providing a unique way to experience the Canadian Rockies.

Sunshine Village Sightseeing Gondola & Standish Chairlift

Can I mountain bike there?

No. The Lake Louise Summer Sightseeing Gondola is not operated as a lift-accessed mountain-bike park, and you should not plan on taking a mountain bike up the sightseeing gondola or chairlift to ride down Whitehorn Mountain.

The summer experience is primarily designed around sightseeing, wildlife viewing, hiking, interpretive activities and dining. The upper-mountain trails are hiking routes rather than downhill or cross-country mountain-bike trails.

This is particularly important because Whitehorn Mountain is within Banff National Park and important wildlife habitat, including grizzly bear habitat. Access and trail use are managed carefully, and visitors need to follow designated routes and any seasonal wildlife restrictions.

If you're bringing a bicycle to the Lake Louise area, there are cycling opportunities elsewhere, but don't expect the sightseeing gondola to transport your mountain bike uphill for a lift-served descent.

For Whitehorn Mountain itself, the best way to explore in summer is to ride the gondola or chairlift up and continue on foot, choosing anything from a short sightseeing walk to a longer upper-mountain hike. Book the Banff Sunshine Village Sightseeing Gondola & Standish Chairlift
