Can I bring my own food?

Banff National Park offers four major Gondola sightseeing lift experiences, each providing a unique way to experience the Canadian Rockies.

Sunshine Village Sightseeing Gondola & Standish Chairlift

Can I bring my own food?

Yes. You can generally bring your own food and non-alcoholic drinks to the Lake Louise Summer Sightseeing Gondola area, which can be convenient for families, hikers, or visitors who prefer to pack a lunch.

A sandwich, snacks, fruit, water, and other portable foods are practical choices. If you plan to spend several hours on Whitehorn Mountain, carrying water and a few snacks is especially useful even if you intend to eat at one of the resort's dining locations.

You should eat your own food in appropriate outdoor or designated public areas, rather than taking outside meals into restaurants such as Whitehorn Bistro or occupying restaurant seating intended for paying diners.

Because this is bear country, food needs to be handled carefully. Never leave food, coolers, backpacks containing food, or garbage unattended outdoors. Pack out your waste or place it in the appropriate wildlife-resistant garbage containers. Feeding wildlife is prohibited, including seemingly harmless animals such as ground squirrels and birds.

For a short sightseeing visit, you probably don't need to pack a complete meal because food and drinks are available at the resort. But for a half-day visit that includes hiking or extended wildlife viewing, bringing water and some easily carried snacks is a very good idea.
