Are there guided interpretive walks?

Banff National Park offers four major Gondola sightseeing lift experiences, each providing a unique way to experience the Canadian Rockies.

Sunshine Village Sightseeing Gondola & Standish Chairlift

Are there guided interpretive walks?

Yes. The Lake Louise Summer Sightseeing Gondola offers interpretive programming, although it is better described as a complimentary interpretive experience rather than a regularly scheduled guided hiking tour.

The interpretive program focuses heavily on wildlife and the ecology of Banff National Park. Knowledgeable staff can explain grizzly bear habitat, animal behaviour, conservation, local plants and the different environments found around Whitehorn Mountain. The Wildlife Interpretive Centre, located inside Whitehorn Lodge near the top of the gondola, is the main hub for this experience.

For hiking, visitors can generally explore the designated upper-mountain trails independently. You can combine a walk with time at the interpretive centre and conversations with staff, which gives you much of the educational value of a guided nature experience while still allowing you to explore at your own pace.

If you're specifically looking for a naturalist-led walk where a guide accompanies you along a trail, I would check the day's program when you arrive. Interpretive offerings can vary during the summer, and the resort's current 2026 information emphasizes its complimentary interpretive program and Wildlife Interpretive Centre rather than guaranteeing a particular guided walk at a fixed time.

For families and visitors interested in wildlife, it is well worth including the interpretive component. It adds context to what you're seeing from the gondola - particularly the importance of Whitehorn Mountain as a wildlife corridor and grizzly bear habitat.
