Are service animals permitted?

Banff National Park offers four major Gondola sightseeing lift experiences, each providing a unique way to experience the Canadian Rockies.

Sunshine Village Sightseeing Gondola & Standish Chairlift

Are service animals permitted?

Yes. Service animals are generally permitted at Sunshine Village, but access can vary depending on the particular part of the sightseeing experience and whether the animal can be transported safely.

The enclosed Sunshine Village Gondola is much easier to accommodate than an open chairlift. A trained service animal can typically remain with its handler during the gondola portion, subject to the resort's current operating and safety procedures.

The Standish Chairlift is more complicated because it is open-air and requires passengers to board and unload from a moving chair. Service-animal access may therefore require specific arrangements, and visitors should not assume that an animal can ride the chairlift in the same manner as the gondola.

If you need your service animal with you throughout the entire experience, including Standish Mountain, it is best to contact Sunshine Village before visiting. Staff can explain the current lift-access procedures and what accommodations are available.

Service animals should also remain controlled around Sunshine Meadows, both for the animal's safety and to protect wildlife and the sensitive alpine environment. Book the Banff Sunshine Village Sightseeing Gondola & Standish Chairlift
