Are dogs allowed on the gondola?

Banff National Park offers four major Gondola sightseeing lift experiences, each providing a unique way to experience the Canadian Rockies.

Sunshine Village Sightseeing Gondola & Standish Chairlift

Are dogs allowed on the gondola?

Yes. Dogs are allowed on the Sunshine Village Gondola during the summer sightseeing season, so you can bring your dog up to Sunshine Village and access the Sunshine Meadows area.

Dogs should be leashed and under control at all times. This is especially important because Sunshine Meadows is wildlife habitat, and encounters with animals such as marmots, ground squirrels, bighorn sheep, and occasionally larger wildlife are possible.

Keep your dog on established trails, clean up after it, and don't allow it to chase or disturb wildlife. The alpine vegetation around Sunshine Meadows is also fragile, so keeping dogs from wandering off the trail helps protect the environment.

The Standish Chairlift is different from the enclosed gondola, and you should not assume that a dog permitted on the gondola can automatically ride the open chairlift. If you intend to take your dog farther up Standish Mountain, confirm the current chairlift policy with Sunshine Village staff before boarding.

For dogs that are comfortable with enclosed lift cabins and hiking, Sunshine Meadows can be an enjoyable summer outing, provided they remain leashed and controlled throughout the visit. Book the Banff Sunshine Village Sightseeing Gondola & Standish Chairlift
